EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Research Scientist

ELORET is seeking to fill a full-time position performing experimental research in the emerging field of nanotechnology and developing chemical sensors with applications to NASA and other government agencies missions of interest. The position will involve technical oversight and task leadership responsibilities. The research scientist serves as a technical expert and is a recognized authority in nanoelectronics based sensors and intelligent sensing systems.

The incumbent contributes new designs or techniques to advance or open the way for further sensors development with emphasis on novel materials identification, new functional material development and formulation, and materials deposition process development.

The position requires system study work, defining areas of study, monitoring the studies, reviewing approaches, and evaluating study results for conclusions affecting overall systems.
These research studies will be conducted in various areas, such as:

- Sensor development for toxic industrial chemicals, VOCs and chemical warfare agent detection
- Signal processing techniques for sensor arrays
- Nano/micro scale fabrication

It will be necessary to contribute to new inventions, new designs, or techniques that are of material significance in the solution of important applied problems with unprecedented or novel aspects.

The work requires maintaining a high level of technical expertise in the fundamental areas of chemical sensors whose applications are used in NASA missions, with application for the Dept of Homeland Security and the Military. Other applications include use in industrial processes, in medical diagnosis using nanoelectronics, nano-sensors, nanoelectromechanical devices (NEMS), and structural materials.

The position involves keeping abreast of the rapid developments in basic research (low technology readiness levels) in this field occurring both within NASA and other government agencies as well as within the academic community.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Candidate must have the following qualifications and experience to be eligible for this employment opportunity:
- A minimum of 5 years experience in chemical sensors development, specifically with:
o sensing materials, including nanostructured carbon nanotube and naowires
o characterization methods including electrical, electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques
o Chemical sensing that includes fundamental studies of carbon nanotubes and nanowire arrays, and their fabrication, functionalization, device integration, and characterization (mechanical, chemical, electrical, thermal and optical)

Required Education

Ph.D. degree in chemistry or materials science

Employees receive a competitive compensation and benefits package, including a 401(k) and an ESOP plan.

All candidates must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents.
